Max Max is the 2008 Florida State champion in the 3000m, and the 2008 Disney National Club champion in the 1500m, 3000m, and 4x800m relay. Max was also a member of the Gliders 2007 National Cross Country Championship gold medal team and has earned 4 AAU Athletics All American patches. 
Paul Paul is the 2007 & 2008 Florida State champion in the 800m and 1500m, and the 2008 Disney National Club champion in the 4x800m relay. Paul also placed 5th in the 1500m at the 2007 AAU Jr. Olympics in Knoxville, Tennessee. This is his second year on an organized track team. He also plays football as a corner and receiver for the Ocoee Bulldogs, where they went to the semi-finals in the Pop Warner SuperBowl in 2006, and also plays basketball for the Rockets, which are first in the state for YBOA. He is also currently a member of National Junior Honor Society at his middle school. 
Brenda Brenda is the 2008 Florida State champion in the triathlon, and the 2008 Disney National Club champion in the shot put. 
Alex 2008 is Alex's 1st year with the Gliders. He progressed through his first season as a Sub-Bantam to become the state champion in the 1500. He also qualified 3rd in the 800 and is part of the 4X400 relay team going to Nationals. Alex is an A student going into 4th grade and enjoys playing soccer and being a good brother and teammate to fellow Glider, Jackson. Go Flying Redheads. 
Neaman GLIDER EARNS TWO MEDALS AT FLORIDA’S HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Neamen was recently honored on Central Florida’s high school track first team as the top hurdler in Central Florida. He was the only Glider this year to win medals at the high school state championships earning a 3rd place medal in the 300 meter hurdles in 37.42 (personal record and fastest in Central Florida) and a 6th place medal in the 110 meter hurdles of which this year he had a best time of 14.54. Neamen also long jumped 22’10” winning the district meet and ran a 10.9 100 meters, both personal records. With these marks he qualifies to try out for the USA Jr. National team in June. Last year, Neamen earned a 3rd place bronze medal in the decathlon at the USATF Jr. Olympic National Championships in Walnut, CA. |
PAST FEATURED ATHLETES 
This is the first year Ellis Has been a member of the Gliders. He enjoys being with and contributing to the team. His first experience in running was the 2004 Smile Mile which he has run every year since. One of his personal goals was to one day win the Smile Mile for his age group. This year, on his last attempt before he was too old to run the race, he took first place in the 11 year old boys division improving on his previous years time by over a minute. Also, Ellis participated in the 2007 Track Shack Grand Pre where he finished second behind his step-brother in the 8 -10 year old division. He has also been one of the top runners of his schools running team, the Speedy Stangs, for the past two years. Ellis is a very accomplished student. He will enter Middle School having been a Straight A student all of his elementary years. Last year in forth grade Ellis earned the highest FCAT score in the school. Also, Ellis is one of only five students in his school to be nominated to participate in the National Young Scholars Program. He will be going away this summer to join some of the best young minds in the nation in a seven day academic program. Ellis hopes to one day work in Wildlife Conservation or Zoology. This is Jose's second season with the Gliders. He was fortunate enough to be a part of the Gliders 2007 Bantam Boys National Champs in Virginia Beach. His first experience with running was also in the 2004 Smile Mile which he has run every year since. In 2007 Jose took second place in a hard fought Smile Mile. In 2008 Jose dedicated himself and accomplished his long time goal of winning the Smile Mile with his best mile time of 5:38 in the 10 year old boy division. Also, Jose accomplished another goal when he won the 2007 Track Shack Grand Pre for the 8 - 10 year old division. He worked very hard for this accomplishment as it required him to compete in seven races throughout the year and earn the most points which accumulate over all the races. Jose is an Honor Roll student and has earned distinction by never losing a race on his school running team called the Speedy Stangs. Jose desires to continue, improve, and build on his running career. He aspires to earn a college scholarship to Oregon University like his late Olympic idol Steve Prefontaine. 
Christopher Cato (born 1998). First season participating with the Gliders. Christopher has always had a passion for running. He ran his first 5k race in 2006, Washington DC for the Marine Corps Marathon participating with thousands of kids of all ages raising money for our service men and women and their families. He has participated in the Smile Mile for the past 3 years as well as for the past 3yrs the Kids Summer Beach Runs in Sarasota Florida and a 5k at the Gasparilla Marathon. Christopher is a straight A student and takes pride in everything he does. Being a part of the Gliders is a great experience meeting kids from other schools and participating in track meets has given him new goals and accomplishments. He has also played Maitland Little League Baseball for the past 4 years as well as Maitland Rec Basketball a well rounded athlete. An avid Gator fan he attends Gator football, basketball and track meets whenever possible. Christopher will be attempting his first biathlon and triathlon this summer. ### 
Caroline (born 1996) started running with the Central Florida Gliders in 2007 and participates in both the track and cross country programs. She placed 2nd in the 3000 meter event and 3rd in the 1500 meter event in the 2007 AAU Regional Track and Field Championship. She placed first in the AAU Regional Cross Country Qualifier. She represented the Gliders at the national level in both programs. In addition to running, Caroline is preparing for her Freestyle Level 4 ice skating test. She is also a volunteer with the Gliding Stars, a not-for-profit organization that provides physically and mentally handicapped adults and children with an opportunity for regular exercise, social interaction, and personal expression through ice skating. ###
